About this expedition

Journey into the heart of the most pristine and untouched part of Borneo, the Spine of Sabah. Venturing through the region's tropical rain-forests, you'll be able to observe Borneo's diverse animal population running wild in their native home environment. Designed as a first time jungle experience, over three days you will learn the basics of jungle trekking by cutting through dense foliage, crossing rushing rivers, and observing wildlife in their native habitats.

Ulu Sawatan Village

Your journey begins at the Ulu Sawatan Village with an expedition and equipment briefing.

Ulu Sawatan Dipterocap Giant

Trek through the jungle with the largest tree species (70+ meters) in the Crocker Range towering above you.

Night trek

Venture deep into the jungle to spot nocturnal wildlife, such as Clouded Leopards, Orangutans and Bonobos Monkeys.

Expedition itinerary

Day 1

  • Depart Kota Kinabalu for Ulu Sawatan Village (Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes transfer time)
  • Arrive at Ulu Sawatan Village (Latitude: 5°29'59.77"N Longitude: 116° 0'45.85"E, 585M ASL)
  • Join welcome briefing & equipment issue
  • Trek to Camp No 1 within the Crocker Range National Park, camp site selected en route (Approximately 4 to 6 hours)
  • Pass the largest dipterocap species in the area, the ‘Ulu Sawatan Giant’
  • Lunch (en-route)
  • Arrive at Camp No 1
  • Set up camp with hammock system, tarpaulin & mosquito net
  • Free at own leisure
  • Evening meal
  • Night trek / wildlife observation
  • Overnight jungle stay

Day 2

Jungle Expedition continued:

  • Breakfast
  • Trek to Camp No 2 (Approximately 2 to 4 hours)
  • Lunch (en-route)
  • Arrive at Camp & Camp set up (Camp site selected en route)
  • Free at own leisure
  • Evening meal
  • Night trek/ wildlife observation
  • Overnight jungle stay

Day 3

Jungle Expedition continued:

  • Breakfast
  • Trek to finish point (Approximately 4 to 6 hours)
  • Lunch (en-route)
  • Arrive at finish point & expedition debriefing
  • Transfer to Kota Kinabalu (Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes)
